Not the pattern, but the column mount. I know you get space for another person up front for threesomes and such, but I find it awkward because of the empty space in the middle and it's annoying to move your arm up and down instead of front and back.

No, I didn't take the picture.

You have to fold down the center armrest, silly.

Don't be! As a general rule of thumb, slusbox A/T's are a sin, unless necessitated by utility. In this case, the only marginally acceptable slushbox is the column shift, because it affords the opportunity to get close to a pretty lady (or dude for $kay). Any car that supports sexy times is always an Oppo-tastic choice. And if that were a Mercury Sable Wagon, the long wheel base and column shifter make it an ideal Oppo Shaggin' Wagon.

Yeah, but it gives you somewhere to rest your right hand when you're cruising.

Hate autos, but if it's got to be one, I like it on the tree.

I'd prefer a Police Interceptor then.

I just got a car with a three-on-the-tree, my '63 Ranchero project. Loosely planning to make it into a four-on-the-tree with the addition of another shifter gate/link.

A number of Euro cars had four-speed column shift.

Me! I just got a truck with a column shift, I don't know where to put my right hand.

I would probably make mistake on the shifting and go from 3rd to reverse lol

Some of the best vehicle based scenes in movie history involve a column shifter. The sheer struggle of finding the gear adds to the tension of the bad guy that's about to kill you approaching the window.

That being said, the column shifter made this scene 100% more satisfying. So who's to say which is best. I guess I can summarize it as:

1. I want a column shifter if I want to ram into someone.

2. I do not want a column shifter if someone is chasing me.

4? If I'm not mistaken the late 80s-early 90s Fiat Ducato panel van had a 5 on the tree.

Manuals as well. When you're cruising you're usually not shifting.

That really was a horrible center sta....err....blob.

I hated Ford for screwing up the Taurus/Sable twins with this redesign. Hated them a second time for letting it rot on the vine for too long.

A Marauder is also a fine choice! Plus the trunk of any Panther is bigger than your first apartment was.

My same issue with my work's Ranger. I put my right arm on the wheel and my left one on the door.

I prefer it, if I have to drive a car with an AT. My work truck has both! A column shifter for the prundle, and a stick on the floor for 4L/N/2H/4H.

I learned to drive on a Dodge Intrepid with a column-mount shifter. The car I took my drivers test in was a Nissan Sentra, with a normal shifter. The instructor told me to get comfortable, and to go when I'm ready. With excitement and pride I sat down, buckled up, turned the key, applied the brake, grabbed the windshield-wiper stalk and yanked it down. Amid the fountain of washer fluid and flailing wipers I realized I won't be impressing the driving instructor.

I sometimes when I switch from driving all day in the company's truck to my personal car, I end up shifting in the air and then I realize...oh wait...I got my shifter on the floor. hahahaha
